Missionaries and Ministries

Christ Church supports a variety of missionaries and ministries, locally, globally and nationally. As you pray for our missionaries and ministries, here is some information about the ministries we are supporting. (Not all of our missionaries are listed here – some missionaries are serving in parts of the world that are hostile in the gospel, and we don’t want to compromise their security.)

Masakuni Hotta

Masakuni Hotta was born in Detroit, MI and has been a missionary to Nagoya, Japan with Mission to the World since 2015. Japan, “The Land of the Rising Sun”, has a population of 126,995,411 and is a majority Buddhist country. Less than 1% of the population is evangelical Christian, making Japan the second largest unreached people group in the world. In Japan, there is a church for every 16,160 people (by comparison, in Grand Rapids, there is a church for every 683 people). In Aichi prefecture (the region where the city of Nagoya is located), there is a church for every 23,333 people.

Currently, Kuni is in Michigan serving at Christ Church Grand Rapids as a Pastoral Resident while working on licensure and ordination as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). After that, he will return to Japan and work as the Organizational Development Coordinator at Christ Bible Institute. He will also serve at a local Japanese Presbyterian Church with a long-term goal to church plant.

In his free time, he enjoys skiing, coffee, board games, and cooking Japanese food.

To learn more about Kuni, visit his website, the website of CBI, and read the missions moment he gave at Christ Church in 2021.

Open Doors

Open Doors is a worldwide network serving persecuted Christians by working with pastors and church leaders to address the most critical needs of the suffering church on the ground. Currently, more than 360 million Christians around the world face extreme persecution or discrimination for their religious beliefs. Open Doors is active in more than 60 countries.
