So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. – 1 Thessalonians 2:8
How will you experience Thanksgiving Day this year? Time with family? Homecooked food? Lions v Packers? The Thanksgiving holiday is full of activity; from driving, cooking, eating, cheering, eating . . . sleeping, it’s a busy day! What about GIVING THANKS “Oh yeah, that’s right!” Thanksgiving Day is a reminder to what the Apostle Paul says we ought to be doing at all times and in all circumstances (Philippians 4:4-6). What do we give thanks for? The good gifts of God, of course. Even before we were a nation, the first Thanksgiving Day on the North American continent was proclaimed by Governor Bradford of the Plymouth Plantation after the harvest in 1621. In 1789 President Washington appointed Thursday, November 26 as a day to give thanks to God for the establishment of a form of government necessary for safety and happiness. Even human government is a gift from God and is inherently “good”, even though human sin corrupts it. ALL the gifts God has given us are to be enjoyed, but always with “open hands.” This Thanksgiving make a list on paper or in your mind or in conversation with your family and try to outdo each other with how many “good gifts” the Lord has given you . . . it may just overwhelm you!
