So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. – 1 Thessalonians 2:8

Where do you read the following statement? “Marriage is inherently a unique relationship between a man and a woman.” If you said from the Michigan Compiled Law (MCL), Chapter 551, Marriage,” you would be correct. It continues with “As a matter of public policy, this state has a special interest in encouraging, supporting, and protecting that unique relationship in order to promote, among other goals, the stability and welfare of society and its children . . .” In 2015 the U.S. Supreme Court legally redefined marriage to include “same-sex” marriages thus allowing same-sex marriage in all 50 states. Although attempts have been made to rewrite Michigan’s legislation that redefines a legal marriage to include same-sex partners, attempts have been unsuccessful. According to a 2025 Ligonier Ministries and Lifeway Research, two-thirds of Americans recognize that God created marriage as the union between one biological man and one biological woman. The high percentage still indicates that a biblical marriage is still embedded in our nation’s psyche. Promoting this biblical view of marriage continues to be important for Christians and the Church as we hold fast to the biblical witness on marriage:

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Gen.2:24).

Even though the laws of marriage in our land change, God’s design will never change. The best way we can promote the beauty of God’s design to those around us is by holding fast to the Scriptures, showcasing to those around us the beauty of God-designed marriage between a man and woman, and modeling to the next generation what a biblical marriage looks like in practice.
