So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. – 1 Thessalonians 2:8

As September 1 reminds us that we’re now in “Meteorological Fall” (as determined by temperature cycles), there are 22 more days until the “Astronomical Fall” (as determined by a 23.5-degree tilt of earth’s axis). Seasonal change is upon us even though the leaves are still green and the temperature is in the upper 80s as I type. But are you experiencing “seasonal change” in your personal life?

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Although the list that follows involves change from one state to another, our personal lives can undergo change. And that’s not easy for any of us, especially when it comes to our health. But what about “changes” to our spiritual health? It’s not any easier. It’s much easier to “coast” or leave things “be.” In fact, spiritual growth will always involve change. If we’re not experiencing “change,” then we’re most likely stagnant in our spiritual growth. And that makes us more susceptible to Satan’s subtle attacks.

As you prayerfully reflect on the biblical values presented by the Session and make use of the Worship Guide in the back of the bulletin that addresses these values, God will lead you into spiritual growth (i.e. “maturing in Christ”). Welcome these opportunities for change as God’s purposeful and sovereign work to make you more like His Son.
