Missionary to Japan

Masakuni Hotta was born in Detroit, MI and has been a missionary to Nagoya, Japan with Mission to the World since 2015. Japan, “The Land of the Rising Sun”, has a population of 126,995,411 and is a majority Buddhist country. Less than 1% of the population is evangelical Christian, making Japan the second largest unreached people group in the world. In Japan, there is a church for every 16,160 people (by comparison, in Grand Rapids, there is a church for every 683 people). In Aichi prefecture (the region where the city of Nagoya is located), there is a church for every 23,333 people.
Currently, Kuni is in Michigan serving at Christ Church Grand Rapids as a Pastoral Resident while working on licensure and ordination as a pastor in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). After that, he will return to Japan and work as the Organizational Development Coordinator at Christ Bible Institute. He will also serve at a local Japanese Presbyterian Church with a long-term goal to church plant.
In his free time, he enjoys skiing, coffee, board games, and cooking Japanese food.
