So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. – 1 Thessalonians 2:8
Your Deacons are amazing! I had the privilege of attending my first meeting with them this week and I was so blessed by their love for the Lord and His people at Christ Church. I witnessed men who were eager and willing to serve, whether it was tending to the physical needs of the saints, building and property needs or careful stewardship of your faithful giving to the Lord’s work. The care and love in their voices for all of you was humbling to witness. I’m reminded of our Lord who said, “But whoever would be great among you must be your servant” (Mark 10:43). While the ministry of Deacon is not one of rule but of service (“servanthood”), Scott, Eric and Brian exemplify godly service. While commending these men for their service, they will quickly acknowledge that they serve in the Lord’s strength and for His glory. Perhaps the Lord is raising up additional “called” deacons at Christ Church? As members of Christ Church, you have the responsibility to be in prayer, to review the biblical qualifications and nominate deacon candidates who imitate Christ who “came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mt. 20:28).
